Inspire Health Foundation is proud to recognize the recipients of its 2026 scholarships, awarded to employees and students who are pursuing higher education while preparing to make a difference in healthcare and their communities.
These scholarships represent an investment in the future by supporting individuals dedicated to learning, service, and improving the lives of others.
“These scholarships represent more than financial support—they reflect the values of service, compassion, education and community embodied by the individuals they honor,” said Leah Gagnon, Director of Inspire Health Foundation. “We extend our sincere gratitude to the legacy families whose commitment helps students pursue their dreams and strengthens the future of healthcare and service in southeast Kansas.”
Dr. Jerry and Norma Hamm Scholarship
The Dr. Jerry and Norma Hamm Scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Jerry and Norma Hamm, whose lifelong commitment to education, community service and improving the health of southeast Kansas continues to inspire others. Dr. Hamm helped establish healthcare services in Coffeyville and served on the CHC/SEK Board of Directors from 2015 to 2023.
This scholarship was awarded to Cadence Hunziker, who plans to attend Pittsburg State University’s nursing program. She looks forward to exploring the many opportunities within the nursing profession before beginning a career focused on providing compassionate, high-quality patient care.
“Receiving this scholarship means a great deal to me because it helps make my goal of becoming a nurse more achievable. Beyond the financial support, it is an encouragement that others believe in my potential to succeed in the nursing profession,” said Cadence.
Ashley Aviles, a CHC/SEK employee since 2013, also received the scholarship. She is pursuing her Master of Business Administration at Pittsburg State University. Her passion for lifelong learning and professional development continues to inspire her to care for others.
“I am honored to receive the Dr. Jerry and Norma Hamm Scholarship. This support helps me continue investing in my education so I can better serve my team, my organization, and the communities we serve,” said Ashley.
Katherine Smith is a sophomore at the University of Kansas studying Human Biology on the pre-med track. She plans to attend medical school and become a pediatrician serving low-income and underserved children.
“I strongly believe that every child, regardless of their circumstances, deserves compassionate, loving, high-quality healthcare and the opportunity to thrive,” said Katherine.
Judge Daniel D. Creitz Legal Education Scholarship
The Judge Daniel D. Creitz Legal Education Scholarship honors Chief Judge Daniel D. Creitz and his more than 40 years of dedication to legal excellence, community leadership, healthy families and brighter futures in southeast Kansas.
The scholarship was awarded to Grace Hite, a second-year law student at Washburn University School of Law. After graduation, she hopes to return to Southeast Kansas to build a career in public service and advocacy while helping address the need for legal services in rural communities.
“Receiving this scholarship means a great deal to me because it represents an investment in both my education and my commitment to serving the community that raised me. Growing up in Pittsburg and watching my parents dedicate their careers to serving our local community inspired my own desire to pursue law and give back through meaningful work,” said Grace.
Anderson Behavioral Health Scholarship
The Anderson Behavioral Health Scholarship is named for Dr. Darwin Anderson, PhD, and Pam Anderson, LSCSW, who over their 18+ years with CHC/SEK, were instrumental in developing the behavioral health program we have today. This scholarship is open to applicants pursuing a clinical track masters or doctoral degree in a behavioral health field from an accredited university.
The scholarship was awarded to Natasha Jones, Behavioral Care Coordinator and Primary Nurse at CHC/SEK, who is pursuing a graduate degree in social work with plans to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She hopes to continue improving access to behavioral health services for patients and families at CHC/SEK.
“Receiving this scholarship is truly an honor. It makes me feel valued and supported by CHC/SEK and reinforces that the work I do is making a difference. I am grateful for the investment in my education and future career,” said Natasha.
Nancy Evans Community Health Nursing Scholarship
Established through the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas, the Nancy Evans Community Health Nursing Scholarship honors Nancy Evans, RN, BSN, for her 17 years of service to CHC/SEK and a lifetime dedicated to nursing and community health.
This year’s recipient is Malerie Whittley, who is attending Pittsburg State University.
