In a world where small acts can make the biggest difference, 17-year-old Myah shows us just how powerful kindness can be. To her, being kind means cheering on friends, showing up, and spending time together—whether that’s going out to eat or just enjoying the little moments.
This year’s “Be Kind” t-shirt reflects Myah’s personality and the things she loves most. She chose royal blue as the shirt color, because it’s the same color as her favorite team, the Kansas City Royals. Myah’s shirt design also features a flower, something that holds special meaning to her. “It’s nice to give flowers, and I like getting flowers,” she shared. Flowers are simple and thoughtful gesture that can brighten someone’s day.
When asked what her favorite part of the shirt she designed, she said, “It’s blue, and I’m happy my name gets to be on it.”
Myah says her biggest inspiration for being kind is her mom, Alicia Norton, a pharmacist at CHC/SEK’s Pittsburg North location—and it’s easy to see why. Alicia believes kindness is something everyone can give, no matter how small the act is. “It can take such little effort, yet the rewards are huge,” she said.
Alicia also shared that being kind also means including others. To her, kindness is about creating moments where people feel valued and remembered. She believes that even the smallest gestures can make a lasting impact. “It’s just a reminder to take the few extra minutes and ‘be kind,’” she shared.
While Myah may be a little shy at first, those who know her understand just how special she is. As her student support specialist Kilie McGown, puts it: “Once you’re Myah’s friend, you have a friend for life.”
Through her design, Myah hopes to spread that same sense of friendship, joy, and kindness to everyone who sees—or wears—her shirt.
