Dr. Hannah Swagerty Joins CHC/SEK Pleasanton, Fort Scott

Dr. Hannah Swagerty’s passion for serving rural communities has brought her to the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas. Beginning December 30, Dr. Swagerty will see patients at CHC/SEK locations in Pleasanton and Fort Scott.

Her first introduction to CHC/SEK came during her residency at the University of Kansas, where she sought more hands-on training in women’s health procedures.

“As a KU family medicine resident, I wanted more training in IUDs, colposcopies, and other women’s health procedures. So, I came to CHC/SEK for a month to work with Dr. Bethany Enoch. That time with her gave me a ton of hands-on experience.”

After completing her undergraduate, medical school, and family medicine residency at KU, Dr. Swagerty began her career in Leavenworth. When the opportunity arose to come to CHC/SEK, she was excited to take it.

“I remembered the great work being done at CHC/SEK when I was here with Dr. Enoch,” she said. “It’s a community organization that’s doing really great work down here, and I’m very committed to serving in rural Kansas.  I’m excited to provide whatever skills and knowledge base I can offer to the community.”

Dr. Swagerty is board-certified in family medicine, and while she enjoys all aspects of the field, she has a particular passion for women’s health.

“The great thing about family medicine is that I care for the whole family. I watch kids grow into teenagers, and then, as they become young adults, I’m already a familiar and trusted figure when they need assistance,” she explained. “I enjoy working in areas like sports medicine, preventive health, geriatric care, and managing chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension to help people live their best lives. But women’s health has always been a special interest of mine – contraception, IUDs, Nexplanon.”

Joining the Community

Dr. Swagerty will split her week working in Fort Scott and Pleasanton. She is eager to integrate herself into the community.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know the community and understanding its needs,” she said. “I’m excited to take care of the whole family.”

Dr. Swagerty enjoys spending time outdoors with her partner when she’s not caring for her patients.

“Every break I get, I’m going to a different National Park,” she said.  “I also enjoy kayaking, biking, or cross-stitching.”
