After 13 years of service, Dawn McNay is retiring from the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas. Dawn joined CHC/SEK in 2011 and served as director of development.
Her connections to CHC/SEK are deep, she says.
“I worked at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center/Via Christi for 18 years. I am proud to say that I was there with Krista Postai (then VP of Community Relations at the hospital) when the discussions began to add a medical clinic adjacent to the newly established Family Resource Center.”
In 2003, ownership and management of that small clinic were transferred to the newly incorporated Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, becoming its first clinic.
Inspired by her late mother-in-law’s embrace of public service, Dawn served on the early CHC/SEK Board of Directors while working at the hospital. She was also elected and served on the Pittsburg USD 250 School Board for 16 years. She is currently on the Pittsburg City Commission and is a former mayor. She has also volunteered with community organizations, including the Family Resource Center, PSU Foundation Board, Pittsburg Public Library Foundation Board, and Mount Carmel Foundation Board. She most recently was recognized with The Spirit of Pittsburg award, dubbed as the “highest honor” by the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce.
What will Dawn do in retirement?
“I am hoping to slow down a bit and focus on other areas of my life,” she says. “My mother in Arkansas requires more attention, and I still have my city term to complete. And there’s travel to see my boys and their families in Florida, Kansas City, and my niece and her family in Spain. After settling into my new residence and routines, I expect to spend some time at another place that is dear to my heart, The Family Resource Center, rocking babies.”
“I have tremendous pride and gratitude for being a part of the CHC family and will always answer any call from Krista,” Dawn says.
