A new pharmacy is making it easier for those living with a rare or complex health condition to fill their specialty medications. 
The Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas will open Apothecare Select pharmacy on Oct. 8 at its Pittsburg Downtown location at 924 N. Broadway. The specialty pharmacy will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week. Patients who need specialty medications can choose to have their medications sent to the Apothecare Select pharmacy by their Specialty Provider.
“Day in and day out, we have been able to build connections with patients at Apothecare Select pharmacy,” Brian Martin, Specialty Pharmacy Manager. “We are walking side by side with them as they navigate complex conditions with the goal of helping them achieve better outcomes and better overall health. It has already been incredibly rewarding, and we are excited to help any way we can!”
Apothecare Select takes care of patients with rare, chronic, or complex health conditions. These conditions require special types of medications like biologics or select oral medications that require special monitoring and administration. The Apothecare Select pharmacists work closely with patient’s healthcare providers to manage and monitor complex therapy regimens.
The pharmacy team provides patient education, including detailed medication instructions and potential side effects. The pharmacists provide regular follow-up with patients to see if their medication needs to be adjusted or how they are tolerating the medication. Additionally, they assist patients with the health insurance and financial assistance processes.
Specialty pharmacies can be a bit harder to find compared to retail pharmacies because of the specific medications they handle. To make prescriptions more readily available for patients, Apothecare Select offers home delivery to help get prescriptions into the hands of patients more easily which is particularly beneficial for patients who may not live near the specialty pharmacy or can’t visit the pharmacy in person.
