Call to enroll your child in KanCare, CHIP

As Back-to-School events are taking place, Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas Community Health Workers (CHWs) are offering their services to help get children re-enrolled in Kansas Medicaid (KanCare) or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for health insurance.

Thousands of Kansas children lost their health insurance coverage in 2023 following the post-pandemic, state-wide renewal process known as “unwinding” following the end of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.

In many cases, these children lost their coverage due to procedural reasons such as failing to submit a renewal form or because their contact information was not up-to-date with KanCare, and their family never received their renewal notice.

Kansas offers health coverage through KanCare to qualifying children under age 19. KanCare is available to children who qualify for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

The Medicaid enrollment process can be complex and time-consuming, and the CHWs are trained and ready to assist anyone who has lost or needs assistance applying. There is no cost to use this service. Assistance will be available at the following districts during enrollment: Iola USD 257, Northeast USD 246, Southeast USD 247, Oswego USD 504, Elk Valley USD 283, Labette County USD 506 and Pittsburg USD 250.
