Curriculum

Residents are provided immersive training, guided mentorship, and a variety of opportunities to develop as a skilled professional while helping to improve patient care across southeast Kansas. The residency program director will work closely with each resident to tailor experiences to their individual interests and career goals. Our program is committed to developing patient-centered pharmacists who are prepared to excel in community-based settings and beyond.

John U. Parolo Education Center

Residents are fully integrated into our healthcare team and develop skills across multiple practice areas:

Education

This experience allows residents to instruct pharmacy students, provide training to pharmacy employees, may earn a teaching certificate, collaborate with other health care members, and present on current clinical guidelines for a disease state.

Leadership and Administration

Develop management, communication, and organizational skills, learn how to open and operate a pharmacy, manage insurance contracts, oversee 340B program processes, and contribute to innovative pharmacy service growth.

 

Patient Care

Engage in diabetes management and education, collaborative drug therapy management, tobacco cessation, adherence support, medication reviews, and direct patient care.

 

Pharmacy Practice

Build pharmacy expertise by processing and verifying prescriptions, conducting drug utilization reviews to ensure safe and effective therapy, providing patient counseling, and engaging in daily pharmacy operations to support optimal patient care.

Professional Development

Participate in research, advocacy, and organizational activities while receiving individualized mentorship to support professional growth and skill development throughout the residency year.

Specialty

Manage complex, high-cost specialty therapies, while gaining experiences in clinical monitoring, interprofessional collaboration, in-depth specialty counseling, and navigating prior authorizations and assistance programs.
