Shipping/Receiving Clerk – Pittsburg, Kansas


This position is part of the Facilities team. The shipping and receiving clerk position verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment. May assist with light maintenance, set up of new clinics and delivery of biohazard waste to the hospital.


  • Prepares shipments for postal or commercial conveyance; determines most economical and efficient shipping method; selects appropriate shipping container; packs items to ensure safe delivery;
  • Unpacks, examines and routes incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages;
  • Receives and processes all defective parts returned for replacement or credit;
  • Sorts, counts, packages, labels, insures, unpacks, and/or logs inventory which is shipped or received;
  • Traces lost shipments and/or customer claims of lost shipments; initiates proof of delivery documents;
  • Performs all computer functions necessary to track various aspects of goods, which includes matching up the packing slips with the order/invoice;
  • Responsible for making arrangements for pick-up of outgoing shipments, including laboratory, by the appropriate carrier;
  • Reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor;
  • Responsible for keeping an adequate supply of shipping materials on hand at all times;
  • May assist with light maintenance, including assembly, delivery and installation of equipment received;
  • May assist with light maintenance, including assembly, delivery and installation of equipment received;
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations;
  • May deliver outgoing USPS mail to the Post Office; 
  • May deliver biohazard trash to the hospital;
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma required;
  • Valid Drivers' License
